I've recently completed a living space for a young couple. The brief to me was to make their home more homely and cosey. I really enjoyed working with these clients. It's always great to work with a client that has similar tastes and style to yourself and this certainly was the case with this project. I'm so very happy with the way this living space turned out.
Here are the before shots:
And these are the afters:
So what I did was introduce darker walls in order to make the white wallpaper and the kitchen cabinets pop/stand out more. Then I added layers. So so important to layer. Layers make a space feel more homely and ensures interest is created. This was done by adding these beautiful solid timber custom shelving to display "stuff". The "stuff" on the shelves are both functional and aesthetic. Another element to add to make the space feel more homely is lighting. Desk lamps mounted onto the shelving highlights the display. The pendant above the dining table creates amazing shadows at night, perfect for achieving a great dining mood. Plus the side table lamp on the server unit creates another pool of light. All these different lighting features create interesting pools of mood in the space and make it feel more intimate.
Soft finishes were added like the rug and new couch, which bring in the element of texture. Pattern and colour are brought in with the 2 occasional chairs and couch scatter cushions . Not to mention the fantastic pop of colour in the form of the sunshine yellow carver at the head of the dining table. Love! The copper coffee table, from our Sketch Bok/dbn furniture collection, adds to the textural elements plus the bevelled mirror top adds great reflections to the space.
What a fun project to be involved in. Thanks to Lee and Phillip for giving me the opportunity to make your house into a home. I hope you and baby Fin share many happy times there.
