Hex Tables by Haldane Martin
Love Love Love these brass Hex Tables by the super duper talented Haldane Martin.
"From bees’ honeycombs to the Giant’s Causeway, hexagonal patterns are prevalent in nature due to their efficiency. The 6 Hex Coffee & Side Tables of various sizes and heights can be arranged in a variety of interesting hexagonal patterns, and can also be nested efficiently underneath one another.
An orthographic projection of a shaded cube pattern has been machined into the warm, honey coloured solid brass tops to create an attractive reflective surface pattern and to also visually guide the user in creating pleasing arrangements or nesting the tables away.
The tops and bases are simply screwed onto the solid brass engineering hex bar legs with brass screws. This means that the tables can be flat packed for efficient shipping all over the world."
You are a clever clever man Haldane Martin!

We do Custom Designed Furniture too!
We recently worked with an awesome client to design and manufacture a bespoke media unit for their home:
We designed this unit in oak with copper metal sliding doors. The unit was designed to house all audio visual equipment such as dvd player, dstv, wii etc. The geometric cut out on the doors allows for ventilation for these various equipment pieces. The unit is designed with 2 higher levels at each end. The right hand end making for a perfect drinks prep area.
These internal pullout shelves, above, hold removable boxes which have dvd and cd divisions in them.
Here's a look at the stunning lounge space where this bespoke media unit now resides, along with our Sketch bok/dbn smooth copper drum side table:

Meyer von Wielligh
Beautiful craftsmanship by Meyer von Willegh:
"Furniture plays a practical and decorative role in our daily lives and is essentially the background against which we live, work and play. For this reason, your choice of furniture will influence almost every aspect of your life."
The Meyer von Wielligh team has nearly 30 years of combined furniture industry skills and international qualifications in joinery, cabinet making and carpentry.
As passionate nature lovers they will only use registered indigenous woods and the selection of all raw timber is done by themselves. Their approach to furniture design favours the gentle lines and intricate textures of nature:

I'm in love with this timber server unit above. Great combination of modern and organic lines.

Source Chair Range by Haldane Martin
Haldane Martin has always been a South African furniture designer that I've admired and respected. His designs are truly iconic. His designs are a portrayal of his interests which are South African cultural identity, biomimetics, sustainability, craft, digital design and complex geometry.
He launched his new Source Chair range at this years Design Indaba in Cape-Town, and I think they are fantastic, take a look:
Source Upholstered Chair
The Source dining chair, with its shapely buttoned upholstered seat is the most comfortable chair in the Source family. Its solid timber legs give it a warm crafted feel.
The chair is available in a range of commercial felt, and clients can also supply their own fabric
Source Woven Chair
The Source Woven Chair is a hybrid between the Source Wire Chair and the Zulu Mama Cafe Chair. The weaving is finer than the Zulu Mama chair. The seat is more upright than the Zulu Mama Cafe Chair, making it more suited to being used as a dining chair.
The frame is made from 60% recycled stainless steel, which can be powder coated in a variety of colours. The traditional Zulu basket weaving material is UV stable Polypropylene. These materials enable the chair to be used in and outdoors
Source Wire Chair
The inspiration behind the Source Wire Chair’s seat pattern is phyllotaxis – the beautiful, spiral growth pattern found in leaf and flower petal geometry. This organic pattern is naturally in harmony with the outdoor environment that it can be used in.
The spiral seats physical structure functions both ergonomically and economically, as the pattern is most dense where one’s body comes into contact with the seat and less dense towards the periphery.
It is made from CNC bent, rustproof, 60% recycled, stainless steel wire and is powder-coated in a variety of floral and neutral colours. A seat cushion is also available for extra comfort and can be upholstered in a variety of fabrics, including customers own material

miss+meisie
Today I'm super excited to be announcing my new venture and
collaboration with my good friend and fellow designer Jess from the
incredible Hector & Bailey.......
miss+meisie
is the start of a fresh, new and alternative approach to bringing like minded
artists and designers to the homes of SA and UK residents, giving you a chance
to purchase cutting edge items at prices which are not over inflated and worthy
of making a great fuss about! We strongly believe in supporting our fellow
creatives and intend to offer thier work on a revolving basis by way of
exhibitions, pop-up shops (SA nationwide) and online.
At
the end of the day, mass production is never an investment.
miss+meisie will be launching at the third gathering of South African winemakers, designers and food producers to take place on 23-25 November at the much anticipated annual Sanlam Investments FoodWineDesign Fair, on the rooftop of Hyde Park Corner. This boutique outdoor market showcases over 100 of South Africa's accomplished artisanal entrepreneurs.
So
spread the word, much more to follow from now until then, so stay tuned!!

Our Home TV Unit
Ryan and I have been busy busy the last 2 weekends working on a TV unit for our lounge space. I hate the look of speakers, so my main aim was to hide these hideous things. So after alot of blood sweat and almost tears, we finally completed. Take a lookie:
There are 2 drawers, 1 for cd's and 1 for dvd's. The 2 speakers lie horizontally on the bottom left and right and the 2 sub woofers are in the middle at the bottom. All hidden by timber panels with cut outs to allow the sound thru. The back of the unit is all open to allow for air flow as these components do let off a bit of heat.
We made the frame of mildsteel and sprayed it matt black and the timber panels are plywood which we oiled. My most favourite are the s/steel recessed locker style handles which we got from a seaport store (they are meant for boat hatches).
So what you think?

Mechanical Bureau by Joe Paine
Super talented Joe Paine has done it again! Check out his latest creation, the Mechanical Bureau. This laptop bureau is inspired by old world mechanical technology reminiscent of late 19th and early 20th Century farm machinary. It uses a system of gears and cranks to open and close the desk. I love the industrial yet almost elegant urban feel of this bureau. This piece of furniture will be a definate talking piece in a space plus it's perfect for laptop users. Beautiful and practical!
Check out the U-Tube video of this bureaus workings here.

The Geo Coffee Table
Super excited to share our new addition to the Sketch Bok/dbn furniture collection. Introducing the Geo Coffee Table:
The legs and frame are made of solid oak and the top metal plates have different finishes on to create this awesome geometric pattern. What you think?
This coffee table comes in a dining table size too. Prices and details to follow.
I would love to hear what you think of our new addition.
