Design Studio Work

I've been super busy lately with design work coming out my ears! Here's a look at what I've been busy with in the studio:

Another service I offer, on the design side, are freehand drawn sketches of interiors which I do for a couple of elite interior designers. These 8 sketches above are for a local design company. The other mood boards are our presentation boards for our clients.

Before & After Snap

I recently decorated a doctors consulting rooms at Alberlito hospital by re-jiggling the drywalling layout, installing timber vinyl floors, adding wallpaper to feature walls and finishing off with new furniture pieces, these rooms have a new tranquil, serene and classy vibe.
Here's a snap of the before and after:

Glamour Boutique

One of the reasons why I love my job so much is that I get to work on such a diverse array of projects. Glamour Boutique has been such an awesome project to work on, not only because the owner is one of my best friends, but because I got to step out of my 'eclectic-vintage signature' comfort zone and dive into the 'glamour world' made up of all things pretty.

Friday gone was the opening of this fab boutique, here are a few pics of the space:

Vase Lights - Sketch bok/dbn

The latest addition to our Sketch Bok/dbn furniture collection are these Vase Lights:

Made from mild steel with a matt black finish and available in 3 fabric cable colour options. The vintage Edison light bulb finishes them off so nicely.

These vase lights look awesome grouped together on the floor too! Check out the Sketch bok/dbn shop page for more info.

Design-on-the-Move Video

The House & Garden Show opened this past Friday and we've had such a great response to our caravan designs for Design-on-the-Move, in collaboration with Mr Price Home.
Check out this cool You Tube video that the talented people at Mr Price Home have put together, depicting the 3 caravan concepts and creatives who created them.

The show is open till next Sunday at the Durban Exhibition Centre, so pop by and say hello!

Design-on-the-Move

I've been super busy prepping for the Design-on-the-Move showcase in collaboration with Mr Price Home.

Basically 3 creatives (Jess, Terry and myself) have been given a caravan each to 'vamp up' using Mr Price Home goodies and putting our own twist on it. There are 3 different concepts: The Modern Gypsy designed by Jess, The Natural Explorer designed by Terry and The Globe Trekkers Studio by me.

Installation starts today, and the opening is at the House and Garden Show this Friday, in Durbs. I'm super excited, not only to see whats in my head come to life, but to see what Jess and Terry's caravans look like. I've been seeing snippets of what they have been busy with and oh my, these ladies are super talented. So dont miss out on this awesome showcase!

Here is a little taste of what The Globe Trekkers Studio is all about:

Hope to see you lovelies at the show, we will be adjacent to the Homegrown Fair. I will be the preggie one sitting outside her caravan (lovely image right?!)

Work . . . Nesting . . .Work . . . Work

Wow, it's been a hectic last couple weeks! Design work coming out my ears and trying to sneak in some nesting in the new home, in between it all. Shewwww!

Here's a snippet of my life the last couple weeks; Work, Nesting, Work and more Work:

I'm feeling slightly more "normal" today so will be back on the blog soon . . .

Collaboration with Mr Price Home - House & Garden Show 2013

Very excited to be involved in this years House & Garden Show in collaboration with Mr Price Home. I will be one of three creatives who will be vamping up a caravan with Mr Price Home lovelies and a bit of my own designs too.
The brief was to come up with a concept to revamp a second-hand caravan using Mr Price Home merchandise and add your own 'twist' to it too. Here are my mood boards for my caravan:

If you are in Durban between the 28th June - 7 July, pop by and come say hello! We will be alongside the Homegrown Hall.

South African Garden and Home May 2013

I'm very pleased to have a kitchen we designed and manufactured featured in the latest South African Garden and Home magazine.

The article shows 10 ways to make your kitchen the heart of your home. Go out and grab yourself a copy if you looking for tips to transform your kitchen space!

Check out the rest of this kitchen on our Spaces Portfolio page.

We do Custom Designed Furniture too!

We recently worked with an awesome client to design and manufacture a bespoke media unit for their home:

We designed this unit in oak with copper metal sliding doors. The unit was designed to house all audio visual equipment such as dvd player, dstv, wii etc. The geometric cut out on the doors allows for ventilation for these various equipment pieces. The unit is designed with 2 higher levels at each end. The right hand end making for a perfect drinks prep area.
These internal pullout shelves, above, hold removable boxes which have dvd and cd divisions in them.

Here's a look at the stunning lounge space where this bespoke media unit now resides, along with our Sketch bok/dbn smooth copper drum side table:

Home Summerveld - Kitchen Renovation

Towards the end of last year I was busy with the renovation of a kitchen, for great clients, in Summerveld. I'm so so happy with the way I transformed this kitchen. Check out the before and afters:

What I did:

# Work with the height of the space and take the cupboards to ceiling instead of stopping them in the middle of no where, like before. A ladder on a rail is practical, to reach these high units and it looks awesome too.

# Created a sitting area around the new island so guests can gather and chat with the cook, or for the kids to do homework around whilst moms cooking. This creates a great social and interactive vibe to the space.

# Dedicate a tea/coffee area away from the cooking area so not to interrupt the cook when making a cuppa.

# Created display areas. "Stuff" on display always makes a kitchen space more homely looking and less sterile. Open shelving and glass units, with lights in, do this trick.

# Elements such as the large blackboard, bucket stool, brightly coloured cushions and custom made engraved "veggies" drawers add interest to this space and make it unique to the owners.

# Created an overall contemporary/country feel that works in harmony with the rest of the home.

If you pop over to our "working on" page, you can have a look at the design work for this kitchen renovation.

Would love to know what you think!

Sketch Designs - Girls Bedrooms

Today I had a successful decor presentation of 2 girls bedroom spaces. Ash, 14 years, and Dale, 10 years are both wanting 2 different spaces. For Ash, a black & white space was her request and sweet Dale wanted her new space to be filled with her favorite colours, pink and blue. Here are the concept boards:

I will be sure to share the "after" pics once all is done!

Whimsical Nursery Concept

I've been working on a concept for a baby's room and thought I should share the mood boards, I've put together, with you.

My thoughts are to create a non-traditional nursery with a whimsical feel. So I'm wanting to steer away from the traditional blue or pink colour palette. The introduction of handmade and crafted accessories will definitely help achieve the look.

Sketch bok/dbn Spaces - Home Glenwood

I completed a main bedroom and en-suite renovation in Glenwood, for a very loyal client, today.  Super happy with the way the space has turned out. I worked with the client to design new built in cupboards, dressing room cabinetry as well as bathroom cabinetry and decor. This Vivienne Westwood wallpaper makes me do a happy dance every time I look at it. Love!

When creating an all white space, it's so so important to play with texture, and that's exactly what we did here. Otherwise the space could turn out looking a little too bland.
There are 2 elements which I feel sets a space apart, and that's adding a personal touch as well as a bit of quirk. This I did with the customised handles for the cupboard doors, which have the clients initials engraved on, and the touch of quirk is added by grouping a collection of different mirrors on this wall above.

Hope your weekend is super! Enjoy.

Design Studio Work

Hello Lovelies, hope you all having a super long weekend. Just wanted to quickly pop in and share some presentation boards with you, which I presented last Thursday. These boards are for the decor of 2 teenage girls bedrooms.
The eldest, Gabriella, is 16 years old. She is wanting a vintage inspired bedroom with pink accents. I added the yellow to it which I think works well. Details like the bow cushion will add a lovely feminine touch.

Olivia is 14 years old and her fav colour is baby blue. She's a little surfer and loves the beach. So for her room I wanted to pair a coral colour with the baby blue, to give a fresh fun look. A distressed paint techniqued unit will look awesome in this mainly white space.

I will definately share pics with you once the sapces are complete!

Design Studio Work

Just got back from a sketch design presentation for a restaurant revamp. It went really well and client is super happy, so thought I would share the concept board with you.

Have a super weekend!

Design Studio Work

I'm about to leave to meet with a client to present the interior finishes & design for their new home. Thought I would share the presentation boards with you before I leave.
