7 Tips For Creating A Kids Space

Today I wanna share 7 of my favourite tips when creating a fun kids space:

#1 - PERSONALISE

Print a fun pic of your little darling onto canvas and it will become a great piece of photographic art which I'm sure your little one will be chuffed with:

#2 - DRESS THE WALLS

Wall decals are a great non-permanent way to create patterns on a wall without the expense of wallpaper:

#3 - DISPLAY TOYS

Displaying their toys in fun box units like this doubles up as storage too:

#4 - ADD WHIMSY

A little whimsy adds a great fairytale /story telling element to a space. Sure too set those little imaginations off.

#5 - DISPLAY BOOK COVERS LIKE ART

Let the wonderful illustrations of your kids books act like pieces of art by displaying their books like this:

#6 - MAKE SPACE FOR CREATIVITY

Every kid needs space to create. Blackboard walls are great for this:

#7 - TELL A STORY THRU DISPLAY

Displaying your kids lovelies on shelving like this is a great way to add character to their space and tell a little story too:

Sleep -Time Fun

How fun are these kiddos beds from Belgium company Mathy by Bols?! My boy would do cart wheels for the tent bed. Definitely no issues at bed time with these cool beds!

Displaying Kids Art at Home

Every home with kids needs that injection of playful, quirky fun! The best way to do this is by displaying your kiddos art at home. Even the most glam homes (like the awesome Kelly Wearstler - pic #1) comes to life with the fun addition of 'kid-like' paint work on the walls.

I'm always looking for creative ways to display my boys art at home. Here are a few of my favourite ideas:

My Trend Forecast for 2014 - Trend #1

New Year means fresh new trends to look forward to in the design world. I've compiled a list of my top 10 trends for 2014 to share with you lovelies over the next few posts.

First up;

 Trend #1 - MONOCHROME

The graphic black and white drama of a monochrome palette is great to use somewhere unexpected like a kids room/nursery. Break away from the traditional blue or pink colour palette and create a classic and timeless vibe with monochrome:

Our Baby's Space

Hello Lovelies, long time no chat . . .

At the moment there does'nt seem to be enough time in the day to get thru everything on my many 'to-do' lists. I've been hectically busy, churning out design presentations, meeting with clients etc, before the big day arrives, which i wish i knew for sure when that was, but somethings i just cant control everything!

So, the nursery is all ready and so am I (well, as ready as I can be) for our new bundle of joy to arrive! Here are some pics I recently shared on my instagram of our baby's nursery:

When it comes to nurseries and kiddos spaces, storage is key! These grey and white woven baskets are great for extra nappies, hats, bibs etc. The wooden boxes with blackboard fronts are being used to store toys. Placed under the cot, easy to get to when the little guy starts to crawl. All available from Mr Price Home.

To give your nursery space a personal touch, you can do so with artwork and illustrations. The button Africa is from local artist Bron Stofberg and the daddy bear illustration from Jimbob Art.

Add local handmade pieces such as the Mr Price pouff with a hand stitched creation by local artist Terry Angelos, the cool pirate doll is from a sweet store in Nottingham road (sorry, preggie brain has forgotten the name), the hessian bunting is by Little Mud Hut designs and not to mention the fab ilovebokkie wall hooks (heehee), super for hanging hooded towels and showcasing cool baby gear.

Finally to complete that unique personalised space, add a vintage item or two. The navy blue and white baby shoes on the shelf were my hubbies when he was a baba. Too cute!

Would love to know what you think of my babas new space! chat soon. . . .

Play-Play Space

We had a lovely long weekend away down the south coast with family and friends. I got to catch up on some blog and magazine reading. I feel well rested and ready to tackle these hectic weeks ahead.

I just love this article, in the latest Visi mag, of this awesome kiddos playroom designed by Matt Allison for his little boy Nathan. Such great attention to detail and the fact that he's used local designers such as Joe Paine is super. Oh to be a kid again!

Thanks Matt for the great inspiration. Got me super keen to start designing up my kiddos playroom.
Check out Matt's website curatethisspace for the cool DIY ply storage boxes and wall organiser, which he created.
