I'm in love with the emerald green walls in the entrance hall. This bold use of colour adds a real wow factor to this home.
An entrance hall or guest loo are the perfect rooms to inject some bold colour like this, and will give you that extra 'oomph' every home needs.

HOME SWOON - SA Homes Rocking It - Part 1

Hi, I'm Wendy . . . . and I'm addicted to decor magazines. . .
I dont know about you, but I'm obsessed with decor magazines especially the features on homes. So, I've decided to start a new weekly post called HOME SWOON, where I get to share with you lovelies, the beautiful homes I'm swooning over.

This weeks post of HOME SWOON, is all about South African homes,  evidence that the world is looking towards Africa/South Africa for design inspiration, as all these homes that I'm about to share with you are all featured in international magazines.

Country Chic

Hello Lovelies! I'm back into the swing of things after a great showcase and have been in need for some interiors inspiration to get me back into the "designing zone". Paging thru the latest Conde Nast House & Garden magazine, I came across this amazing interior by local architect Lisa Rorich and decorator Ruth Duke. Ruth's addition of black and metallic accents gives this earthy country space an awesome contemporary edge. Combined with Lisa's simplistic design and detailing, this home is just too beautiful. I'm in love!

Play-Play Space

We had a lovely long weekend away down the south coast with family and friends. I got to catch up on some blog and magazine reading. I feel well rested and ready to tackle these hectic weeks ahead.

I just love this article, in the latest Visi mag, of this awesome kiddos playroom designed by Matt Allison for his little boy Nathan. Such great attention to detail and the fact that he's used local designers such as Joe Paine is super. Oh to be a kid again!

Thanks Matt for the great inspiration. Got me super keen to start designing up my kiddos playroom.
Check out Matt's website curatethisspace for the cool DIY ply storage boxes and wall organiser, which he created.

Nomad by Sibella Court

I've recently started reading this book Nomad by Sibella Court and oh what a visual feast it is. In this book this amazing stylist shows how to bring our travels home with us in the most unique of ways. It's globetrotting and daydreaming all rolled into one.
These images below dont quite do the book justice. The journey you are taken on with the tactile nature of this book and the discovering of beautiful image after beautiful image, as you page thru the book, is just fantastic.

"Sibella’s approach is not about recreating a whole look but about adding and subtracting, rearranging and recycling, transforming and rethinking to make interior spaces that reflect your personality, experiences and lifestyle. Nomad will help open your eyes to what’s around you and fuel your imagination long after the suitcase is unpacked."

Kids Decor

I seldom find a good kids decor book. They all seem all a little too biggie best like and "traditional". But wait, hold onto your seats, I've finally find a book worth sharing with you:

Kids Decor Baby Rooms & Nurseries by Sam Scarborough is filled with unique and fun decor ideas for kids spaces. Finally someone that does'nt create the stereo typical nursery.

Here are some boards I've put together of some of the great spaces and ideas Sam has created:

A kids space should be unique, like they are. To furnish a room in a theme off a stores showroom floor, is just plain boring. There's no excitement in this, plus your child will have the same space as most. Not different, not fun and exciting.
You can have so much fun decorating a kids space, be a little quirky and even add a touch of kitsch. There are no rules, just go for it!

Bokkie Reads

Hello Lovelies! Hope your weekend was great. I was lucky enough to have a really relaxing one, and got to dive into my stash of mags.
I thought I would share some of the cool things I came across, some great inspirations.

First up is the January 2012 Living Etc. I fell in love with this family home in New Zealand. The kiddos rooms are so so cool.

The explosion of colour on the "Deco Trend" pages of the South African Elle Deco are awesome! I NEED this yellow typewriter! Really great colour inspirations here.

And lastly, the Conde Nast House & Garden never fails when it comes to really plush interiors. I loved this article "Style Hunters", which is all about Women entrepreneurs who have created high-end collections with African craft as their inspiration.

Flying House by traveling mama

If you dont know about the Traveling Mama blog, please let me introduce you.
Tina, a freelance writer (amongst other things), blogs about her travels around Europe with her husband, a freelance photographer, and three kids.
One of the things I love most about her blog, are her amazing little journals/journey books she creates which documents their travels as a family (flying house). Plus the photography by her hubby is really stunning too.

Here are some pics of her most recent journal:
